Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his side do not have to compete with the style of Manchester City since the two clubs struggle at the top of the Premier League.
The Reds weren’t at their attacking best in Chelsea on Sunday but made a 2-1 win to maintain their lead at the very top over City.
Watford 8-0 on Saturday swept aside.
“This sort of soccer not a lot of teams can perform ,” said Klopp.
“But we play our way, we try to win football games.
“In the conclusion we need to acquire the things, there’s no competition in technical things, it’s all about the points.”
Klopp’s name pace-setters looked on course to acquire in relaxation as the header of Roberto Firmino and Trent gave them full control in the interval.
When Cesar Azpilicueta’s close-range campaign was ruled out for offside by VAR, chelsea, who was denied an equaliser, were in no mood to capitulate and forced Liverpool fight every inch of the best way to maintain the ideal record.
Tammy Abraham had opportunities to improve his tally of seven goals this season, especially when he was refused by Liverpool keeper Adrian when clean through from the first half, however, it had been abandoned to N’Golo Kante to establish a grandstand finish with a great strike with 19 minutes to play.
Liverpool held on, surviving opportunities from Michy Batshuayi along with Mason Mount, to choose the three points.
“it is a tough place to come, it’s some time ago we won here. It’s a big win,” Klopp added.
“The boys did very well, they struggled really hard. I don’t think there is another means to win here. It is a huge win.”
Liverpool remain unstoppable in their Premier League duel with Manchester City if they are to maintain the big prize all potential champions will need to secure.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a tradition of releasing a blitz since the start of last season, their sequence extended to 15 games on competitions in a streak of only one league loss.
This was totally different.
Liverpool might have appeared to have been on cruise control but Chelsea were always within this game and pressed against the league leaders right before the last whistle.
They were more sloppy than usual were much below their best and on events looked excruciating – but they still emerged victorious out of what’s traditionally among the assignments about the calendar.
Over the course of a very long campaign, a year Liverpool will expect will end their 30-year wait it is victories on times such as this which is vital, if not more so, than the times when competitions are blown away.
The joy at the final whistle of klopp, in contrast to some of his expressions of fury during the match, said it all.
This is a victory that is crucial. Liverpool’s bandwagon rolls on.
Chelsea have to win in Champions League and the Premier League this season, without a defeat at Liverpool is anything other than an acutely distressing experience.
And yet, despite this loss coming hard on the heels of their home defeat by Valencia in their Champions League group game, Chelsea director Frank Lampard will require excellent comfort and assurance.
This is a new Chelsea, being built in a style by Lampard, as well as leaning heavily on kids such as Fikayo Tomori Mason Mount and Abraham.
When Liverpool went up two through Firmino’s header following poor marking at a free-kick, the target coming minutes after Azpilicueta’s apparent equaliser was overruled by VAR, it’d have been simple for Chelsea’s minds to drop.
Nothing could have been farther from the truth since they pushed and pressurised Liverpool before receiving a ovation until the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga might have maintained them using a magnificent save from Firmino in it however Chelsea, driven by the glorious Kante, were left cursing those missed chances for Mount and Batshuayi which could have made them a point.
No Chelsea conquer is not hard to take, particularly against Liverpool, but this was a performance which will give encouragement and hope to Lampard.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard:”Performance-wise we had been the top team. We had more energy within our match, character and soul. That’s why the audience applauded at the end. Let’s consider this forward.”
On VAR:”We have to get on it. It’s a sad thing for your celebration and the moment but when we are searching for decisions that’s where we’re at. The air in the crowd affects , to the pitch. We are deflated and they get a boost. We deserved to be level at that point.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp:”The first half was hard work. It is all about momentum in games such as this and I think we got that in the first half. We scored two goals and we could have scored after half time two more. We deserved the three points, it’s hard to win ”
“We’re just here. Six, chelsea matches in. We haven’t won anything nationally so we must carry on. We have to be ready for every single opponent. They are all waiting and wish to give us a knockso, however, we need to be ready to do that which we must do.”
Attention turns into the League Cup as Liverpool visit League One side MK Dons on Wednesday (19:45 BST), while Chelsea sponsor League Two Grimsby on the Exact Same day (19:45 BST).
