Gerwyn Price preserved his International Darts Open title, beating Rob Cross 8-6 in a thrilling final in Riesa.

Price whose two other titles this season came with an Players Championship double in February, started his weekend work on Saturday with a 6-4 win on Kyle Anderson and on Sunday the exact identical scoreline accounted for Joe Murnan after which a quarter-final win over UK Open winner Nathan Aspinall, who had led 4-2.

“I had three months off and following the breakup, I wasn’t very convinced – I changed my darts, had a brand fresh set of darts and it seemed to work for me personally.
“I usually start pretty nicely in the beginning of the season and then taper off, ideally that’s a bit different this year. After winning this one, I confident today.
“Maybe [I will possess ] a weekend following week and then I can look ahead to Gibraltar and the remainder of the year”
