His racing manager Angus Gold stated:”We obviously already had one valid contender for the race in Madhmoon, but Sheikh Hamdan and (coach ) Mark (Johnston) both felt it’d be a lengthy time between races when we waited to get the English Champion with Elarqam, and who knows what might happen between now and then?
“I was very impressed with Elarqam at York, and when we’d ridden him somewhat handier I don’t think he’d have been far away.
“The front two quickened away – he was a bit further back than ideal and didn’t have a clear run. I am not saying he would have won but for that, if things had been different, but he might have gone pretty close.
“(Trainer) Kevin (Prendergast) is very satisfied with Madhmoon, which is the apparent race . Personally, I believe a mile and a quarter is going to end up being his best excursion, but I understand (jockey) Chris Hayes feels he could end up back at a mile.
“I think it’s very hard to select between the two of these. I believe Madhmoon could have more speed than Elarqam, and is perhaps the horse – but whether he’s a better horse or not, it’s difficult to say”
Veteran trainer Prendergast is seeking his first win at the race and told irishchampionsweekend.ie:”I could not be happier with the form he’s in. In terms of his trip, together with his form in the Classics this season, it could be hard to say – but surely 10 furlongs won’t be a problem.
“The race the last day served its objective. It was great to see him drop back into a mile and then reveal the pace to triumph over that trip. I really don’t think approaches will matter ”
Aidan O’Brien includes four runners, including Derby hero Anthony Van Dyck, but the filly Magical seems to possess a profile that is constant – .
“We have been really satisfied with Magical because she ran at York,” explained O’Brien.
“The plan was to visit York, then go to the Irish Champion – and even when all goes well, then visit the Arc. We have been happy with her because, and she also came out that the race well.
“Anthony Van Dyck is also in great order. His last series was a non-event, since they probably went somewhat quick and the ground was somewhat soft.”
Magic Wand and hunting Horn represent Ballydoyle.
The Headman of roger Charlton has won 2 Group Twos at France this summer and has been improving at a rate of knots.
“It is a huge jump up in class, but I have been pleased with all the horse,” said Charlton.
“It is actually the only real race to run in, because there are no more three-year-old-only races and having won 2 Group Twos, there’s not any point giving away weight in another Group Two.
“I do not think either of the French races appropriate him. I think that the course and the style of the race will suit him better, and also I think there is a quicker surface what he wants.
“I presume there will also be a better rate, and they will not go like they did in France last time out. He’s a horse, and you do not wish to be breaking this stride.
“I believe that horse is one for the long run, and I’m sure he will keep advancing. I think he’ll be better next year.”
Adding spice is – as she had been to win against the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.
“I sat on Tuesday, and that I sensed super, but it is a very very good race,” said Murphy.
“I believe Magical seems the one to beat, no doubt, but she goes there with a good chance.
“In Goodwood she had been back to her after she would run disappointingly on her British debut at Ascot – so we will see what she is made of.”
