If you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting the days for the return of college football since the second Clemson ended putting a whupping on Alabama at the championship. The waiting is over and football is back.??
There is a lot of uncertainty in regards to choosing games of college soccer due to new head coaches the turnover, loss of key players, along with freshman/inexperienced quarterbacks in Week 1. But from betting that will not stop any of us can it? There are??many games on the slate but there are a couple of matchups that have caught my attention and a couple of teams that I will be interested in watching due to new schemes, new training, new players.
Here’s what I will be seeing in Week 1:
True freshman Hank Bachmeier was named the beginning for Boise State later it had been noted that redshirt sophomore Chase Cord had to have a snap with the No. 1 crime after tearing his ACL midway through last season. Big shoes to fill Brett Rypien, as the past year’s newcomer, left as an undrafted player into the NFL, ending his college career with a 3,700-yard year, also Offensive POY honors at the seminar. When healthy, it was anticipated that the start would be seen by Cord but rather we get Bachmeier, who’s the first freshman to become an FBS newcomer since Rypien in 2015.
On the flip side, you own a team at Florida State that on paper??should produce a lot greater than it did??last year, finishing just 5-7 and 3-5 in the conference. The Seminoles??are always the best recruiting team at the conference, have a high coming generation, get a new OC in Kendal Briles out of Houston, and a (somewhat) experienced QB. The question is, how do we hope Willie Taggart, who’s entering his second year, as a head coach? This past year, the group had a good defense but was close to the??floor (13th) in??crime — before only Louisville, which??ended with a 2-10 record, 0-8 in conference.
Why I’m looking forward to this matchup: We get a complete unknown in QB play for Boise State, a team that is regarded highly by the market (9.5 regular-season win total) playing against a team which should see a much better season. But does??Florida State make??it back into a bowl (after its 36-year streak ended with Taggart), or improve its??2018 listing of 5-7 to possibly 7-5 or even greater?
Odds: Boise State is +5.5??on a neutral area. If you want trends, then the Broncos??are 5-0 ATS in their last five??matches when playing as an underdog and head coach Bryan Harsin is 11-2 as an underdog over his livelihood.
Since I love games that are offensive, I like college football. Let’s light up the scoreboard, boys! Houston includes QB D’Eriq King after capping off an excellent 2018 season completing 63 percent of his passes with 50 touchdowns returning — FIFTY! As a passing offense, the Cougars will be looking to keep that prowess much as they get a brand new head coach in Dana Holgorsen. Although Houston does lose OC Kendal Briles into Florida State, I’d anticipate a pure transition with Holgorsen, who was the head coach at West Virginia (top five??at death year), not a big change in offensive fashions.
Expect anticipate and points a Good Deal! In passing defense, Houston ranked 130th out of 130 — Oklahoma was a smidge better, shutting out the year ranked 129th — although that means they were last.
I’m looking forward to this matchup: You can probably create a drinking game out of the for each touchdown scored. Let us not! Oklahoma has amazed the last few years because of amazing QB drama from Murray and Mayfield. Well, they are both gone into the NFL and OU has Jalen Hurts, who might be a terrific QB but is he Murray/Mayfield good? Will he be able to put up those kinds of stats? I’m convinced of King’s abilities although it was seen.
Odds: Houston is +23??on the street with all the OVER/UNDER??place at 82.5 (steep). The total has gone over and over in 11 of OU’s last 15 games.
Shane Buechele! The QB is a transfer from Texas who played in every game. He recorded 11 interceptions and 21 touchdowns. Then came Sam Ehlinger, who became Texas’ brand new player that was shiny. The Mustangs closed out a year with a 5-7 record, going 4-4 in the AAC.
Arkansas State moved 8-5 final season and that I can not say with confidence that it will be replicated. QB Justice Hansen was good at his place, the best quarterback in the Sun Belt Conference, but he has now gone. In regards Logan Bonner with little to no expertise. The Red Wolves may have some regression without corner, tackle and their All-Conference QB. To make things worse, they will be starting the year with no head coach Blake Anderson. Afterwards she fought with breast cancer for the second time anderson lost his wife . While some leave is taken by Anderson, defensive coordinator David Duggan will take over.
I believe SMU has some upside why I’m looking forward to this game. We all know what Buechele is really capable of producing so I would think there is some potential there for a QB. Add this to the combination of returning employees (HC, OC, DC all in their second year) and this Mustangs team potentially has a shot at a great season — at a six-win season.
Opportunities: OVER/UNDER 58, Arkansas State -3.
Georgia??Southern QB Shai Werts didn’t throw one interception that the entire season last year after playing almost every snap — using just 10 touchdowns (zero selections!) . I just want to see if this series can last vs an LSU defense that is famous for forcing a great deal of turnovers. This is a game where when Werts throws a pick, I am changing the channel. If I end up not reaching for the remote, I would be shocked.
Truth: LSU -28, OVER/UNDER 53.
Paul Johnson, GT’s head trainer, retired after last year for running the triple-option offense for several a long time and when GT is known for one thing, it’d be. Well, now that has gone since GT has brought in Geoff Collins, who had been the head coach at Temple that the last two decades. The crime will change, but what is expected? Your guess is as good as mine, but Collins has stated he’ll be running an”NFL-style, spread-based attack” — so a more conventional, pro-style offense.
Anticipate different, but distinct will not necessarily mean magic.
Opportunities: Clemson -36, OVER/UNDER 60.
A couple of two teams which don’t??create much enthusiasm. However, NIU is a team, I think. After making this into a name game for the sixth straight season, the Huskies took the name of champions last year for the first time because 2014, ending 8-6, 6-2 in conference. They’ve lost their bowl game the previous two years (2018 vs UAB, 2017 vs Duke), however they have some adjustments which make me enthusiastic about seeing whether they could advance. NIU has a brand new head coach in Thomas Hammock, that doesn’t have any head coaching experience but who was the Baltimore Ravens RB trainer for the past five decades.
RB Tre Harbison might see a much bigger boost in manufacturing because of it. He was the very first rusher in NIU since 2015, finishing with 1,034 yards, last year. I think NIU will remain a team after dropping DE Sutton Smith and his??15 sacks??into the NFL. This team has a QB that is returning , offensive coordinator, along with a new HC but an wager to acquire the MAC is not so far-fetched.
Odds: OVER/UNDER NA, NIU -5.5
