(CNN) — There’s a special bond between German football club Union Berlin and its enthusiasts and the proximity of the relationship was honored in a poignant way across the weekend as the team made its Bundesliga debut.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against RB Leipzig, Union supporters held up placards of deceased loved ones with the inscription”Edlich dabei” (Eventually there).
The deceased were counted from the official presence. The Stadion An der Alten F??rsterei’s official capacity is currently recorded as 22,402, however, Saturday’s attendance was recorded as 22,467.
The stadium, that’s the largest purpose-built football floor in Berlin, was formally opened in 1920, however, has undergone a series of modifications.
According to the club’s site, Union fans”assembled their very own stadium,” with over 2,300 volunteers providing 140,000 hours of labor time, helping the Berlin group save millions of dollars.

Saturday’s tribute was organized by an assortment of enthusiast groups, with images of the departed fans raised before kick-off since the club anthem spelled out. The expenses of the tickets have been paid for by fans.
However, Union’s introduction into the Bundesliga proved a hard one — Leipzig hammered them 4-0.
Last season Union finished third in the second grade of football to make a playoff from VfB Stuttgart.
The subsequent two-legged victory and marketing of union watched the team become the first from the former East Germany out of the fifth and East Berlin to gain passage to the Bundesliga.
