Billy Horschel believes the BMW PGA Championship has a feel to it thinks victory would cement his standing as a world player.
Horschel is one of a number of PGA Tour players making their debut at Wentworth this week, even with Tony Finau, Patrick Reed and Viktor Hovland all also emerging at the Rolex Series event.
Changes into the Tour calendar saw the championship transferred from the traditional May place to September, allowing more players to incorporate it in their schedules, eventually become and together with Horschel hoping to impress the first American since Arnold Palmer to lift the trophy.
“[The BMW PGA] is comparable to our own Players Championship,” Horschel said. “I really feel as if it’s a significant on our tour and the European Tour feels as though this is a major for them in their lecture.”
“it is a very historic occasion, plenty of heritage. It would mean a lot to me because for the fact , it would demonstrate that I’m a player to have the ability to come over here and add my own name to the decoration.
“I’m a world-class player and I can go round the world and triumph at spots on earth, not just America. To be a world-class player, you have to have the ability to go beyond your comfort zone and perform countries and courses you are not utilized to and play well and win. That’s something I’ve always wanted to perform and I can achieve.”
Finau also makes his first appearance to the West Course that is iconic , having looked in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last season, together with the world trying to play with outside of the USA in recent years ahead.
“I feel like I’ve world-class sport, and the way to prove yourself would be to travel the world and play,” Finau said. “I have always known I needed to return and compete against world-class players on various sort of golf courses.
“If you’re really a world-class participant, I feel as if you’ve got to acquire all around the world on different kinds of golf courses, and then I expect to experience various cultures and travel to different areas.
“So a combination of those things, I really feel like are a reason why I wanted to bring some European Tour events and maybe eventually even various other tours to my resum??.”
