Liverpool’s specialist throw-in trainer Thomas Gronnemark says Jurgen Klopp’s revolutionary approach to management is really to build”something unique” at Anfield.
Klopp made headlines last year when he added his training staff and Gronnemark together midway through the effort.
The Dane, who holds the world record for the longest throw-in in 51.33m, had an immediate impact on the method of this club’s full-backs – most especially Joe Gomez.
Liverpool went on to claim their sixth European Cup after that season and Gronnemark is not surprised to find that the Reds.
“Jurgen is an innovator,” Gronnemark told The Athletic. “He’s a leader who claims that he does not know everything and is prepared to follow people if they have knowledge to take the bar forward.
“If you have a leader who wants total control and thinks that he knows best about what then that will influence your workers.
“Even though you are one of the best clubs on the planet, it does not mean you’ve got to do exactly the identical thing as you did yesterday. You truly feel as though you are talking with a buddy, when you meet with Jurgen. He succeeds lots.
“To let a guy into the team who was pretty much unknown in England and convey ‘we want all your knowledge to place it in the training programme’, that reveals a lot of trust and excellent leadership.
“He is great at getting the most out of people. It’s far more egocentric in other clubs. There’s a pride among the gamers and the staff. They feel part of something special.
“Sometimes I will stop and look at the players in front of me and think,’Oh, that is insane’. I am working.
“InitiallyI had a contract for the first half of the year then it was extended for the second half and I have one for the full season.
“I don’t think many folks are laughing now. I believe most folks in football seem at it and say’Okay, there must be something inside’.”
