In Major League Baseball (MLB), spring training is a collection of practices and exhibition games beyond the start of the regular season. Spring training allows new players to test out for roster and place spots, and gives established players practice time prior to competitive play. Spring training has always attracted enthusiast focus, drawing crowds who journey to the warm areas of Arizona and Florida to enjoy the weather and watch their favourite teams play, and spring training normally complies with spring break for several US college students.
Spring instruction normally starts in mid-February and continues until just before Opening Day of the regular season, which falls in the last week of March. In some years, teams never scheduled to play on Opening Day will play spring training games that day. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training first because pitchers gain from an extended training period. A few days after, position players arrive and staff practice starts. Exhibition games generally begin in late February.
