Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones’ rookie season has been a forgettable experience.
“Last year, it was certainly disappointing for me and by a team perspective,” Jones said during minicamp, through the Tampa Bay Times. “Definitely, for me, it is all about getting on the right track. We’ve got a new system, a new team, we are trying to make our mark in here.”

When given a chance Jones, A second-round pick struggled to get on the area and did not impress. The running back was a healthy scratch for the first 3 weeks. Then he dealt later in this season. In only nine matches, Jones engaged in all and wasn’t remarkable when he got the ball. The 21-year-old compiled 23 carries for only 44 yards, a gruesome 1.9 yards per tote, with a single TD. The back also struggled as a pass-catcher, hauling in seven balls for 33 yards.
Jones has a new start at a new offense under Bruce Arians after compiling only 77 scrimmage yards all year. Running backs coach Todd McNair stated Jones looks like another player than the person who struggled last season.
“He was drafted where he had been drafted for a reason,” McNair said. “He has a wealth of talent. Our goal is to take the anxiety away from him, take the expectations off him. Let focus and make this thing small. And it seems to be paying off. He is working hard, and he’s going to keep working hard.”
The Bucs did little to update their running backs area this year departing Peyton Barber and Jones since the projected leading runners. Jones should get every chance early in the season to prove he’s put a disappointing rookie year before and is ready to proceed forward.
“The offense is a good deal more free,” Jones stated. “I believe we are able to play inside ourselves and be ourselves. I enjoy it a lot. It’s fun. They’re all fantastic coaches, but I think just for me, I am starting to place the verbiage and everything together.
“I am definitely ready and that I can’t wait to find the most of those opportunities, but I’ve only got to show them that I could be a dependable player and they can rely on me in critical scenarios.”
