Callum Johnson says WBO title-holder Sergey Kovalev – that fights Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez following month – is the weakest of the four globe winners.
Was not able to fight WBA champion Dmitry Bivol this fall due to a shoulder injury.
Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is eyeing a second shot in a world title fight next year.
Johnson explained:”I believe Kovalev is the weakest from their four, to tell the truth, he is the weakest of these winners. Bivol is next.
“Not in terms of ability – I think Bivol is possibly the best in terms of boxing skill. But I do not think he’s the most powerful and most powerful. Middleweight could be likely made by him as well.
“He has very nice footwork, and he does all very well and , into the eye for a boxing purist he’s fantastic and he really is quite good but I don’t believe he’s got the crushing power that everyone thought he’d at one point.
“I don’t think he has that lots of gears, I think he is what he is. He is a top-level boxer but I believe he could be mad and he could be roughed up and that I do believe I have the tools and the power and the capability to accomplish this.”
Kovalev comes up against Canelo at Las Vegas on November 2, and Johnson anticipates the Mexican to emerge on top.
“I believe Canelo [wins]. I believe his best times Kovalev has seen.
“Do not get me wrong, it’s a tough challenge for Canelo because he is jumping up two burdens and Kovalev remains very, very great.
“However, I believe if anyone can beat him, now the time is enough to beat him and we know how good Canelo is so it’s a fight I’m excited about seeing”
As among the division’s four belt-holders go beterbiev requires on WBC champ Oleksandr Gvozdyk at Philadelphia on Friday.
Johnson is currently financing his conqueror Beterbiev to beat the Allied, who rates as superior than both Kovalev and Bivol.
He said:”The battle tonight is your very best two, I think we will find out who’s the ideal tonight.
“I think Beterbiev wins. I hope he wins! [That] might be a bit of bias but I think I would be picking him to win because he is a really strong fighter, if I’d never boxed Beterbiev and I see him becoming strong.
“He’s also an excellent boxer, he’s got the amateur experience, the amateur pedigree, like Gvozdyk, [however ] I only hope Beterbiev to win.
“It might be a close battle. It’s a 50/50 that is real. But I believe Beterbiev is going to come out on top.”
Having missed the opportunity to fight Bivol because of trauma, Johnson admits he might need to check his fitness with a fight next year before setting his sights.
“We’ll find out what happens,” he said. “I believe I’m likely to have another struggle until I get offered one again, but I’d jump into one, because I am a fighter and I wish to fight for a world title again. I’m likely to need win that before I get my luck and to really have a fight.
“I will fight those next season, so, whenever, wherever.
“No matter makes sense, whatever will be good for my career, I’m happy to perform.”
