Alan Shearer blames Newcastle’s Premier League relegation on Michael Owen back according to preceding team-mate Michael Bridges.
Owen autobiography, Reboot – My Life, My Time, has raised the lid on a 10-year spat between the pair since their time at St James’ Park.
In the book, former Liverpool and England ahead Owen describes linking Newcastle to associate Shearer’step’.
Bridges, who played both during his career, believes Owen hasn’t just”disrespected the club hugely” but also claims Shearer, who was interim manager in the time of their 2009 relegation, blames Owen’s attitude and too little campaign for the club’s demise.
“After Alan (Shearer) got the project, he kind of preserved Michael Owen liable for a portion of their relegation,” Bridges advised Optus Sports.
“And that also comes from a man named Paul Ferris, that had been the physio in the moment.
“He said for a man that has played only 58 Premier League games for Newcastle – scored 26 goals, shot $22m in salary out of the club – to state he did not want to be there, did not like it… I believe he’s disrespected the club massively.
“Ferris said in the past six months of Owen’s contract that they could not actually get him to play in games since he was more worried about the next deal that was forthcoming.
‘his heart wasn’t in it and it has never been talked about by Alan he holds him accountable.
“And today it’s definitely going to be coming out from the book and he is really upset lots of Newcastle fans.”
