Arnold Allen (-350) vs Gilbert Melendez (+265)
Arnold Allen (14-1) could be one of the best boxers that you have not seen before and the odds certainly suggest oddsmakers are taking him against Gilbert Melendez (22-7). Allen tends to fly under the radar somewhat as he’s only fought once per year because 2014, but when he does struggle, fans are in for a treat.
Allen is somebody who lets his game do the talking and he doesn’t tend to be a character pre- or post-fight, which can hurt when it comes to marketing. He is making an attempt to be more active as this is already his second battle in 2019. He comes into this bout undefeated at the UFC with a 5-0 record with two performance of the nighttime awards to his credit.
Gilbert Melendez, 12 years older than the upstart Allen, has been through wars with nearly everyone in the UFC. Melendez has no issue declined, entering the fight on a streak. It is never a good sign when a fighter needs to step away from the sport to locate their love for this again. Following his last struggle, he did just that, but I have very real questions about the motivation of Melendez, that has not won because 2013.
This will be the biggest battle of Allen’s career and if he has a wonderful showing, it ought to vault him to the top 15, finally. He is very well versed and has shown an ability to adapt to the fight in front of him.
Lately, he’s given away a number of his approach , stating:”I am prepared for anything, I’ve had all sorts of struggles. I’ve been in boring fights where nobody gets hit and you end up winning without getting touched, and I have had fights where I have been in little brawls, type of grinding struggles, so I will be prepared for whatever he attracts. I am just planning to outpoint himoutskill him, and going for a bit better than him on the night.”
I concur, and Allen should point-fight his way into a conclusion triumph, but he wants not to give in to Melendez, who will want a kill-or-be-killed firefight.
