Aidan OBrien senses ground and 10 furlongs may prove ideal conditions for Magical in the Qipco Champion Stakes.
The flexible filly is bidding having won the Fillies & Mares race – after which she moved down all guns blazing to Empower in the Breeders Cup.
Magical was busy again this season and found Enable a difficult nut to crack on more than 1 occasion – but cries at the Tattersalls Gold Cup and Irish Champion Stakes have noticed her add to her Group One drag.
She finished fifth in this months Prix de lArc de Triomphe, the time – in nine rebounds outings – that she has been out of their two since the race last year.
OBrien said:Shes an remarkable filly. She runs over different trips – all floor comes alike for her, and she comes out of her races fantastic.
Obviously she ran from the Arc, that wasnt that long ago. But she appears to be in good form, and were excited about running .
We think on soft ground, 10 furlongs is likely her excursion. She should be quite comfortable at it on this ground anyway.
OBrien also conducts I Can Fly – agonisingly with a triumph at Dundalk, although beaten from the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes this past year to display to her attempts.
We believe I Will Fly might like the ground, said OBrien.
Her very best run came this time last year over a mile on tender ground, but she has form over a mile and a quarter also. She is in good shape too.
There has been plenty of money for William Haggas Addeybb this week but shifting to the inner hurdles track may not be in favor of their mud-lover.
Haggas said:We are thrilled the race is about and were delighted to be participating in Obviously we hope it rains nonstop from now until the race!
Magical is a high-class filly, and hes got all on to conquer her. Hes got a bit but he is a horse once the floor is soft.
We are going into the race fresh, but he will most likely have to be if he is going to win.
Hes had a fantastic preparation and that he had a nice gallop at Newmarket a week, that will have benefited him.
I would say hes a long-shot on form, but if he receives his conditions he could encounter it.
Deirdre was a surprise winner of the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood – and also to establish was no fluke, she looked behind in the Irish Champion Stakes.
Yoshitake Hashida, assistant coach to Mitsuru Hashida, said:She appears in very good shape. She emerged from the Irish Champion at all – so far, so great without any troubles.
She was unfortunate at Leopardstown, and I feel the most frustrated man was Oisin Murphy. Its a day for Oisin, because he is going to be verified as the champion jockey – that is great.
They have moved the race into the inside course, which can be great. I believe that is the main reason weve decided to conduct on Champions Day, rather than going to the Breeders Cup or anything like this.
We think she is in much better condition than she was (Royal) Ascot – we think shes in top state today.
We met Magical from the Prince of Waless Stakes and acquired a little closer to her in the Irish Champion. Whereas yet another very excellent race in France has run we have had a break since the Champion.
Wed prefer quicker ground, but I expect she could run a good race.
Having come so close in a lot of Group Ones, John Gosdens Coronet seemed destined to not win a single – but she broke her duck in her penultimate begin at the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, then followed up in the Prix Jean Romanet second time outside.
She will head to the paddocks following this – win, lose or draw.
We waited all the time for a Group One – and shes won 2! Said Richard Evans, that oversees Denford Stud.
Its more than we could have wished for – and this is it, her last run.
Were just imagining. She wont mind soft ground – shes fine , although she would not want it too thick.
Clearly Mr Haggas horse (Addeybb) will love the floor, and thats currently in there, but we would just be delighted to maintain the framework – a triumph could be outstanding.
Were only a length behind the past year, and hopefully they will be close again, but that I believe Magical and Mr Haggas would be both to beat – and there might be a few surprise packages.
A win would be excellent and a wonderful way to end her racing career. She will be fresh – Magical ran from the Arc, so it might come, and she hasnt run since winning in France.
The good ones do not come along often, and it was nice that the choice to remain in training was rewarded
