In Major League Baseball (MLB), spring training is a collection of practices and exhibition games beyond the start of the regular season. Spring training enables new players to test out for roster and position spots, and provides established players practice time before competitive play. Spring training has always attracted enthusiast focus, drawing audiences who journey to the warm climates of Arizona and Florida to enjoy the weather and watch their favourite teams play, and spring training normally coincides with spring break for many US college students.
Spring training typically starts in mid-February and continues until just before coming Day of the regular season, which falls in the last week of March. In certain years, teams never scheduled to play on Opening Day will play spring training games daily. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training first because pitchers gain from a longer training period. A few days later, position players arrive and team exercise starts. Exhibition games usually begin in late February.
