Nicky Henderson has Cautioned plans are fluid for Altior amid talk of a Battle with Cyrname in the Christy 1965 Chase at Ascot at November.

Paul Nicholls had verified the latter had been on target for its Berkshire showpiece in his Owners’ Open Day on Sunday but writing in his website for Unibetthe Seven Barrows trainer said:”I’d like to make it very clear that nothing is set in stone about what he will do. Following a brief chat with Patricia Pugh (proprietor on Sunday) we shall most likely sit down again in the very close to future and make a decision about which route we choose.
“It was exactly the same a few years back when we had to decide whether to remain hurdling and target for your Unibet Champion Hurdle or go newcomer pursuing, but I think that it’s reasonable to say we’ve made the ideal choice on that front!
“All of us know how good Altior is both miles and I guess you could say if we’re the very best at one thing, why alter it? But I personally think he’s searching for the following half a mile in which case we have to start thinking about is your King George?
“I’ve got a huge amount of admiration for Cyrname and I am not afraid to take him with Altior, but it’s by no means sure they will meet in the Ascot Chase as many have indicated and there’s no doubt we will do what’s ideal for the horse.
“Altior is back at Seven Barrows and cantering away nicely so everything is going well and when we’ve made a decision about where he will start his season, I will let you know!”
