The European Poker Tour continues to chug along in 2019 with a recent stop at Barcelona pulling in record numbers for the poker tour.
The almost two-week poker festival started with the 1,100 National Championship drawing on a record 4,682 entries to make a prize pool of $4.5 million.
On the opposite end of the program, Swedish poker player Simon Brandstrom outlasted 1,988 entries in the $5,300 Main Event to take a first-place prize of $ 1,290,166 down. The Main Event has been the largest in the background of this EPT Barcelona, that is impressive considering it’s been held for the past 16 decades.
Barcelona FC celebrities Gerard Piqu?? along with Arturo Vidal also both managed to cash in the 25,000 Single-Day High Roller while playing on home turf.
This was in addition to this surprise announcement of the PokerStars NL Hold’em Players Championship (PSPC), which will occur as part of EPT Barcelona at 2020.
Swedish poker pro Simon Brandstrom is the Main Event winner at EPT Barcelona’s history.
Brandstrom outlasted almost 2,000 entries to take down an impressive $1.29 million. It would have been even more had he not made a heads-up deal with immigrant poker ace Marton Czuczor, who salvaged $1.25 million for his efforts.
The table also included famed Swedish poker pro Johan Storakers along with English expert Kully Sidhu. As it took one hour to move from six players to two the table was one of the quickest in the history of the EPT.
Play went on for 2 hours before Brandstrom was able to finally land the knockout punch.
Here’s a look at the complete final-table payouts for EPT Barcelona (*reflects two-way deal):
There’s a long history of athletes playing with poker over the side but the success stories are few and far between.
Gerard Piqu?? would be one of those exceptions.
A week, the Spanish footballer finished second at the elite $25,000 buy No-Limit Hold’em High Roller tournament at EPT Barcelona.
The 25k tournament drew on some of the greatest poker players on the planet but Piqu?? discovered a way around every one of them except eventual winner Juan Dominguez.
It had been the single most important cash in Piqu??’s poker career but he seems to be improving. Back in 2017 he finished fifth. In general, he has $668,155 in tournament earnings that are live.
What’s most impressive about the success in the poker table of Piqu?? is that he’s doing it while still playing football at a degree that is world-class. Before their athletic careers are finished, athletes don’t get into poker. Not for Piqu??, who’s managed to fit EPT Barcelona.
Lately, Piqu?? was the sole Barcelona FC player to cash in the $25k High Roller as teammate Arturo Vidal completed fifth to take 134,460.

Following a record-setting EPT Barcelona, organizers are thinking about the potential 2020 version of the festival.
PokerStars declared that the second-ever $25k PSPC that was buy-in will occur sandwiched in the center of this 2020 edition of EPT Barcelona at Casino Barcelona.
Poker players that are countless are qualified by pokerStars to your PSPC, which makes it among the one most value-packed championships in poker. Ranked poker player Ramon Colillas took good advantage of the PSPC this winter and won $5.1 million.
During the EPT Barcelona of this year, PokerStars declared it had qualified five players to the 2020 PSPC as a part of the Chase Your Fantasy marketing of the company.
So the 2020 edition of this stop could possibly reach historic levels with many records more place to be broken at the poker festival, EPT Barcelona is already among the very densely populated tournaments around the EPT schedule.
