Phil Taylor has known for feeling Leighton Bennett to be included in Wolverhampton in this season’s Grand Slam of Darts.
By becoming the youngest world champion in January, beating Scotland’s Nathan Girvan 3-0 at the Lakeside to win at the BDO World Youth Championship bennett stormed into the spotlight.
The schoolboy nicknamed’Boom Boom’ has enjoyed success on the mature BDO Tour in 2019 and has scooped six of the 10 events.
PDC chairman Barry Hearn has advocated Bennett to be included by the BDO among the eight representatives for November’s cross-code occasion and speculation is mounting that the 13-year-old has been considered for selection.
The star has climbed to 17th over the likes of Martin Adams and Scott Waites about the BDO standings, also Taylor believes Bennett’s potential inclusion would generate tremendous interest.
“I am not a major dart-watcher,” Taylor told Sky Sports.
“Someone just asked me a question concerning young Leighton Bennett and should have a wildcard into Wolverhampton?
“My answer was that I don’t watch the darts on TV but if Leighton Bennett gets a wildcard I will see it since he is exciting. He is a nightmare to perform.”
Taylor retired from competitive action after the 2018 World Championship, but Bennett has been faced by the 16-time world champion twice on the exhibition circuit in recent months and he has experienced mixed fortunes.

Callum Johnson says WBO title-holder Sergey Kovalev – that fights Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez following month – is the weakest of the four globe winners.
