While the majority of the focus heading toward Washington Redskins training camp will be on the quarterbacks, the running backs up gear to get a tight battle of their own.
Adrian Peterson is defined to be lead dog, but the Redskins consider the competition for carries will buoy the group. Derrius Guice, coming from a torn ACL, is anticipated to be ready for training camp, and if he has regained the form he showed last offseason could carve a huge function. Chris Thompson, who dealt with an injury-marred 2018, should play the pass-catching role once again, and with questions at recipient, that function might be vital. Rookie Bryce Love likely will not be ready for the start of the season, but down the street could siphon off carries. And 23-year-old Samaje Perine stays a option.

Once healthy, the group looks deep on newspaper. There is an opportunity that the competition could upset the apple cart, particularly given the fact that Peterson isn’t a back that normally shares the load. The training team, however, considers the competition will bring out the best all around.
“It’s upped our game, and those guys get a little bit upset when all the sudden a man gets a few repetitions and they are looking at me like,’Coach, if is my turn?'” Running backs coach Randy Jordan said, each the official site of the team. “It makes it effortless to coach when you have got a good room like that.”
Added Jordan:”You need those guys which are really, very enthusiastic and take that to heart, like,’Hey, I need to be the guy.'”
Jordan has insisted that a 50/50 or 60/40 split between Peterson and Guice would be perfect, even if All Day has never shared the load successfully in this manner. If Thompson remains healthy, the Redskins have a formula to get a running back committee that may do damage.
If rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins wins the starting QB gig from camp, then the RB trio will likely be of greater import. Regardless of who lines up under center, expect the Redskins to start the season relying upon the ground game to spearhead the offense until the pass attack rounds into form.
“Hopefully we have balance. That’s always the key,” coach Jay Gruden said. “When we were successful annually with Alex [Smith] early in the season, it is because we had been going the football, making our third downs, mixing in the run, pass and play activity. That’s when most crimes are at their finest.”
