While most of the attention heading toward Washington Redskins training camp will be on the quarterbacks, the running backs gear up to get a tight battle of their own.
Adrian Peterson is set to be direct dog, but the Redskins believe the competition for conveys will match the group. Derrius Guice, coming off a torn ACL, is expected to be ready for training camp, and when he’s regained the form he showed last offseason could carve out a big role. Chris Thompson, who dealt with an injury-marred 2018, should play with the pass-catching function once again, and with questions at receiver, that function could be vital. Rookie Bryce Love probably will not be ready for the start of the year, but down the road could siphon off conveys. And Samaje Perine that is 23-year-old remains a option.

When healthy, the team appears deep on newspaper. There’s a chance that the competition could upset the apple cart, especially given the fact that Peterson isn’t a back that generally shares the load. The training team, however, considers the competition will bring out the best all around.
“It’s upped our game, and those men get a bit upset when all the sudden a man gets a couple of reps and they’re looking at me like,’Coach, when is my turn?'” Running backs coach Randy Jordan stated, each the official website of the team. “It makes it easy to coach when you have got a good room such as that.”
Additional Jordan:”You want those guys that are really, really excited and take this to heart, like,’Hey, I want to be the guy.'”
Jordan has insisted that a 50/50 or 60/40 split between Peterson and Guice would be perfect, even if All Day hasn’t shared with the load successfully in this manner. If Thompson stays healthy, the Redskins have a formula for a running back committee that may do damage.
If rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins wins the starting QB gig out of camp, the RB trio will probably be of greater import. Irrespective of who lines up under center, expect the Redskins to begin the season relying upon the floor game to spearhead the crime until the pass assault rounds into shape.
“Hopefully we’ve got equilibrium. That is always the key,” coach Jay Gruden said. “When we were successful last year with Alex [Smith] early in the season, it is because we had been moving the football, which makes our third downs, mixing in the run, pass and play activity. That is when most offenses are at their best.”
